Community Highlights

The Ultimate Shoe Drive

Cypress, Texas | August 2014

Orange Leaf Headquarters (HQ) awarded grants of up to $2,500 to over 20 stores March of this year, as part of our second annual Community Service Initiative. Stores were able to apply for grants to help support their local partnerships and community service events.

Our two stores in Cypress, Texas used their $2,500 award to support a partnership with Cy-Hope, a local organization whose mission is to rally the entire community (businesses, education, churches, civic organizations, hospitals, and individual volunteers) to advance the goal of making life better for kids in Cy-Fair Independent School District, serving the economically, spiritually and relationally disadvantaged children.

Both Cypress stores have established a strong relationship with Cy-Hope, and it came as no surprise when Orange Leaf HQ received a grant application from the Cypress staff to support a shoe drive benefiting Cy-Hope.

The Cy-Hope shoe drive kicked off in May and ended in August. Both Cypress Orange Leaf locations were two of many drop-off points for customers who had shoes to donate. The advantage about dropping your shoes off at the Cypress Orange Leaf locations was that customers received $1 off their next froyo purchase.

Shoes donated did not only help the kids in the community, but some of it went to support less fortunate kids in developing countries.

Both Orange Leaf locations had a successful shoe drive thanks the Cypress community and the Cy-Ranch Key Club.

To wrap up the drive, Orange Leaf Cypress hosted a froyo party at one of the Hope Centers.

Cy-Hope has created "Hope Centers" in trailer parks and apartment complexes where kids can come for tutoring, life skills classes, Bible study, sports, games, and mentoring. This is one of the many programs offered by the organization.

On August 27, Wanda Abel, manager of Orange Leaf Cypress (Northwest Frwy) and Aymee Arhelger, manager of Orange Leaf Cypress on Grand Rd. catered froyo, toppings for the kids at one of the Hope Centers. HQ supported the event with Share Our Strength cups and t-shirts to mark the start of our second annual Share Our Strength campaign aimed at ending childhood hunger in America.

The set up at the Hope Center was great, and after school, the kids came running in to enjoy some froyo and toppings.

It was a joy to see the kids so excited about unlimited froyo and toppings. The t-shirts were a big hit as well. The kids put them on and wore the shirts through the entire event.

At the end of the party, Wanda, Aymee and the HQ team donated a check for over $2000 to Cy-Hope. The Cypress stores used part of their $2500 to cover the cost of the froyo party and donated the remainder of their grant to Cy-Hope.

The Cy-Hope team was grateful for Orange Leaf and has high hopes of continuing this amazing partnership.

Thank you to Wanda, Aymee and the staff of both Orange Leaf Cypress locations for making this a successful Community Service Initiative event.

We here at HQ are happy we could support you make an impact in your community.
