Pretty neat, huh?

The convenient timing of all things 11, coupled with a national holiday, presented us with a quirky promotion angle we just couldn’t ignore.

Now, don’t get us wrong. 111 stores is a BIG deal for Orange Leaf. But we wanted to do more with this opportunity than just celebrate our success – we wanted to say “thanks.”

So, we decided to team up with AMillionThanks.org, a nonprofit whose sole mission is to send letters of thanks to both active and veteran American soldiers.

Even we were surprised by the response from customers, franchisees and their employees. Our very own CEO Reese Travis grew up in a military family, experiencing firsthand the sacrifice and dedication necessary for serving the United States.

From Nov. 1 through Nov. 11, “Thank Tank” stations were available at every Orange Leaf location for people to come in and write encouraging words to the men and women who have so bravely served our country. Many people shared their personal ties to the armed forces on our Facebook page, encouraging everyone from elementary school children to veterans themselves to participate.

Rallying our communities through this campaign was a great way for all of us at Orange Leaf to fulfill our mission of promoting family and community. After all, we are America’s Frozen Yogurt™.

We thank everyone who participated in the “Thanks A Million!” campaign, but most of all, we thank our troops for the many sacrifices they have made to keep us safe and free.

Didn’t make it into the store? No problem! Just visit AMillionThanks.org and write your letter today.

Franchise Update October 2011

<itunes:author>Orange Leaf</itunes:author>

Growing By the Spoonful

Orange Leaf’s tremendous growth began in 2010 when a group of franchisees, including current CEO Reese Travis, decided to buy the California-based company and relocate its headquarters to Oklahoma City. The little-known brand served a mere 15 locations at the time, but its proprietary product and unique family-friendly atmosphere quickly made Orange Leaf the froyo
to watch.

Now, less than two years later, Orange Leaf is 103 stores strong with 76 under construction and new prospects signing on every week.

We value our brand, our product and our successful business model, but most of all, we value our dedicated franchisees. Without these hard working men and women, we wouldn’t be the industry leader we are today.

The week leading up to the event, customers entered their names in a raffle for the chance to be one of 20 who won tickets to the exclusive after-hours event and famous Ms. Louisiana pageant. The 20 lucky winners, 36 beautiful contestants, another 36 faithful hostesses and the reigning Ms. Louisiana herself enjoyed all the fro-yo and toppings they could eat.

The party was a huge hit, particularly for three little girls whose eyes lit up like pageant spotlights when they discovered they’d get to see the competition up close and personal. Hagan was happy to support the Ms. Louisiana crown and roll out the red carpet (literally) for her glamorous customers and their favorite frozen yogurt – even if it did set the attractiveness bar pretty high for future events.

Bossier City Orange Leaf Rallies Community to Raise Funds for Local Family

<itunes:author>Meredith Lynn</itunes:author>

When Bossier City store owner Tracey Porter discovered that a local family was struggling to cope with their youngest daughter’s life-threatening illness, she took action and rallied customers to help.

When a 6-year-old girl was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, her family’s world turned upside down and faced drastic change. She was soon transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital in Dallas for treatment, presenting her family with the extra burden of travel expenses.

Porter set up a fund to alleviate some of the financial pressure the family faced and encourage them in their time of need. Orange Leaf customers were eager to help their neighbor and generously raised over $500 for the family before their daughter sadly passed away on May 28. The community continues to offer support, still contributing money for lingering expenses.

We would like to thank Tracey Porter for seeing a need in her community and using her Orange Leaf store as a means to help. Our thoughts are with the family and we appreciate all the customers who have contributed to the fund. She’s a fast-talkin’ running enthusiast who decided to get her community moving. In an effort to promote her store, and an improved healthier lifestyle for her fellow New Braunfels neighbors, Pelicano hosted a Half Marathon, complete with Orange Leaf jerseys and branded medals.

On July 9, over 250 runners crossed the finish line – a number Pelicano said she can easily triple next year. With a lower entry fee, the race was not intended to be a moneymaker, but rather a fun event to rally the community and inspire healthier habits.

Winner, Neal Lucas completed in a speedy 1:16:00 and went home with a one of a kind Orange Leaf trophy. The day was a huge success filled with friends, fun and, of course, plenty of America’s Frozen Yogurt™.

Jacob Knorpp, owner of the Orange Leaf Yogurt store in Joplin, was among the lucky few who suffered minimal damage to his place of business.

That night, the Orange Leaf employees on duty and several customers waited out the storm in the store’s bathrooms and thankfully, no one was injured. In the aftermath, Knorpp and other survivors in the community, along with volunteers from across the country, lent a helping hand to storm victims in an attempt to rebuild and heal a broken city.

After five days, McAlister’s Deli on the other end of the strip rented a large generator to get things rolling back toward normal. Knorpp borrowed some of their power until permanent electricity could be restored and immediately got to work.

The weekend after the tornado, Orange Leaf opened its doors to the community and served free yogurt for several hours a day – a small, yet much needed, pick-me-up.

It’s franchisees like Jacob Knorpp who inspire us all to use the resources we have available – be it time, money, or frozen yogurt – for helping our neighbors through times of crisis.

Orange Leaf and Girl Scouts

<itunes:author>Meredith Lynn</itunes:author>

Who doesn’t love a Girl Scout in uniform? More specifically, who doesn’t love a Girl Scout in uniform handing out yummy cookies? We wanted to partner with this delicious organization to add some fun to the toppings bar – and give back to our troops…and our troops! What are we talking about?

Well, on June 29th Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma teamed up with some Orange Leaf stores to help raise funds for Troops for Troops, an organization that sends a little taste of home – boxes of Girls Scout cookies - to our soldiers overseas.

Troops 256 and 1256 of Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma performed the Presentation of Colors and demonstrated modern scouting activities, such as the art of making personalized, tie-dye stationery with nothing more than water, food coloring and a whole lot of bubbles. All day, Girl Scouts in uniform received free frozen yogurt. Any cookie sales or donations went directly to Troops for Troops.

The day was full of fun, tasty treats and valuable lessons about the importance of giving back. We are excited and proud to have partnered with such a great organization and look forward to future endeavors.

Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt and Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma Team Up to Raise Funds for Troops for Troops

Girl Scouts Cookies to be sent to soldiers overseas; made available as yogurt topping in OK

OKLAHOMA CITY —On Wednesday, June 29, 2011, Orange Leaf Yogurt will officially kick off apartnership with Girls Scouts of Western Oklahoma to raise money for Troops for Troops, an organization that sends Girl Scout Cookies to troops overseas.

From 4 - 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, Orange Leaf Yogurt will be giving away free yogurt to all Girl Scouts in uniform at the 7550 N May Ave. location in Oklahoma City. At 4:30 p.m., the Girl Scouts will perform the Presentation of Colors. Girl Scouts will be in attendance demonstrating STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities that is part of the Girl Scouts pathway to leaderships. Representatives from both organizations will be in attendance.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Girl Scouts and for the community,” said Cathy Stackpole, CEO for Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma. “Girl Scouts believe in the Promise to serve the community and to help people at all times. We know that our military love opening a package from home and seeing Girl Scout Cookies. It represents home, family, and community in a unique way. We sincerely thank Orange Leaf and their customers for helping us raise the necessary funds to transport this little piece of home to our military – and we hope everyone will come out and support this effort and, while there, try a Girl Scout Cookie topping on some delicious frozen yogurt!”

Through July 31st, at all Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman and Lawton-area Orange Leaf stores, customers can indulge in Girl Scout Thin Mints from the toppings bar on any of the 16 available self-serve frozen yogurt flavors. At check-out, guests will be invited to donate their change to Troops for Troops.

“Orange Leaf ran a multi-state promotion recently where we raised money for veteran- and soldier-related charities. We’re keeping that momentum going though our support of the Girl Scouts program, Troops for Troops,” said Reese Travis, Orange Leaf CEO. “And with the Girl Scouts’ main focus being on leadership, and with our brand leading the self-serve frozen yogurt industry, it was a natural match.”
